Gatsby Fever
Holly Griffin
Expertly timed to greet the new movie release of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic The Great Gatsby, the spring 2012 runways were flooded with beautiful, vintage inspired pieces reminiscent of the classic 20s era. In the post-war world of the 1920s, many changes were taking place for women and thus the flapper fashion was born. It embraced all that was stylish and modern with bare limbs, slim-line shift dresses and daringly short hairstyles which have come to epitomise the liberal and care-free attitudes of the time. Ralph Lauren, who designed the costumes for the original 1974 version of the film, as well as Marc Jacobs, Marchesa and Christian Dior have all taken inspiration from the luxurious Jazz Age to create an array of feathered and beaded drop-waist dresses, charmeuse wide-leg trousers and fringed shawls, all of which are sure to make their way to the streets of our fashion capitals and captured by SpottinStyle photographers very soon.
